- Setting up mIRC V3.92 and higher for wavs. Compliments of #WavCity
-
- 1. Enable sounds. On the main menu, click on "File", then
- click on "Options", then click on the "Sound Requests"
- tab. Check "Accept sound requests", check "Ignore if a
- sound is currently playing" and check "Warn if sound doesn't
- exist". In the box "Location of wave files:", type in the
- full path of the directory where you will keep your .wav
- files. If you hit the "?" on the right, you can browse
- your directories. You can place your .wav files in any
- directory you want. It is a good idea to keep them in
- their own directory such as "c:\mirc\wav\". When
- finished, click on "OK". You can use the Widows 3.1
- File Manager or the Windows 95 Explorer to create a new
- directory for your .wav files, if needed.
-
- 2. Set up DCC options. On the main menu, click on "DCC",
- then click on "Options". In the "On Send request:" box,
- check "auto-get file" and check "mimimize". In the
- "On Chat request:" box, check "Auto-accept chat" and
- check "minimize". In the "On transfer completion:"
- box, check "Auto-close get window" and check "Auto-
- close send window". If you want it to beep when a
- file tranfer is completed, check "Notify with Beep".
- In the "Time-outs in seconds:" box, change the setting
- of "Get/Chat Dialog:" to "999", "Send/Get Transfer:" to
- "999" and "Fileserver:" to "999". In the "Max number
- of:" box, make sure "DCC Sends:" is "20" (default) and
- "Fileservers:" is "10" (default). Check "Show transfer
- progress as percent" and check "Auto-resume existing
- files". In the "DCC Get files into this directory:" box,
- type in the directory where your .wav files are. If you
- hit the "?" on the right, you can browse your directories.
- This must be the same directory you chose in step 1.
- When finished, click on "OK"
-
- 3. Set up DCC send options. Before you continue, you must
- have at least one file in your mIRC .wav file directory.
- It does not have to be a .wav file. It should be a small
- file, less than 1KB is good. Your C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT is a
- good file to use. You can delete this file from your
- mIRC .wav directory after this step. You must also be
- connected to an IRC server to do this step. On the main
- menu click on "DCC", and click on "Send". In the "Nick:"
- box, type your nickname. Using the "Directries" and
- "Drives" boxes, locate the directory of your mIRC .wav
- files, and double click on it. You should see the file
- you copied in there. Highlight this .wav file. Change
- the "Packet Size:" setting to "4096". Check "Minimize",
- uncheck "Fast Send" and check "Fill Spaces". Click on
- "Send". Two minimized boxes should appear on the bottom
- of the mIRC main window. One should say "Sending 'nickname'"
- and the other should say "Get 'nickname'". You are
- actually sending a file to yourself. This will automatically
- save your settings.
-
- 4. Set up remote. On the main menu, click on "Tools", click
- on "Remote", and click on "Events". Enter the following
- line on the next free line. (note: the mIRC default has no
- entries in this section, this new line may be the only one
- unless you have added others.)
-
- 1:ON TEXT:!nickname*:*:/dcc send $nick c:\mirc\wav\ $+ $parm2
-
- The "nickname" should be your nickname. The directory
- "c:\mirc\wav\" should be the directory where you have
- your .wav files.
-
- Check "Listening". Click on "Save to", the "mIRC Save
- Events to..." box will appear. This box should come up in
- your mIRC directory. In the "File Name:" box, it should
- say "remote.ini". If not, use the "Directories" and "Drives"
- boxes to locate your mIRC directory and highlight the
- file "remote.ini". Then click on "OK" in the "mIRC Save
- Events to..." box. Then click on "OK". You are done.
-
- 5. Operation. You are now set up to play, send and receive
- .wav files. In order to hear a .wav file, you must already
- have the .wav file in your .wav file directory. You can get
- .wav files from other people who are playing them on an IRC
- channel. When you get a message that says:
-
- "*** Requested sound [whatever.wav] doesn't exist"
- "* whoever plays a wave"
-
- it means "whoever" just played a .wav file that you don't have.
- If you want to get the .wav file, type:
-
- "!whoever whatever.wav" <Enter>
-
- This will start an automatic DCC get of this .wav file from
- "whoever". You will see a minimized "get" box, on the bottom
- of the main mIRC window. When the file transfer is complete,
- the box will automatically close. The next time that .wav file
- is played you will hear it. Other people can also automatically
- download .wav files that you play on the channel.
-
-
- To play a .wav file using mIRC V3.92 type:
-
- /sound whatever.wav <text> <Enter>
-
-
- To play a .wav file using mIRC V4.0 type:
-
- /sound # whatever.wav <text> <Enter>
-
-
- To play a .wav file using mIRC V4.1 type:
-
- /sound whatever.wav <optional text> <Enter>
-
-
- "whatever.wav" is the name of the .wav file you want to play.
- "<text>" can be any text you want to appear on the channel.
- Note: in V3.92 and V4.0 you must type some text after the
- name of the .wav file, even if it is only one character long.
- mIRC V4.1 does not require any text.
-
- That is the quick get wavin' information. There are other, more
- advanced things you can do with mIRC. There are also some good
- third party programs that work with mIRC.
